2020 UPWARD SEASON
God’s Perfect Timing in an Unprecedented Season

The 15th season of HCC Upward basketball and cheerleading saw 347 participants, 70 percent of whom did not attend Highlands, fill the FLC six days a week for over two months with excitement and joy. Encouraged by the connections team, HCC families came out of the bleachers to welcome, love, and build relationships with those from our community.

Coaches poured their hearts into young athletes as referees supported players on and off the court. Concessions workers showed families they matter to us and to God. Prayer partners spent time on their knees, fervently calling on the Lord to bring children and families to Him. Boys and girls grew in their sports, while at every practice hearing how much God loves them. Game days saw the FLC packed out and full of encouragement for the young athletes. Families and guests watched halftime video messages from HCC staff who shared Bible truths participants were learning, with practical applications for their own lives (watch here) .

The spread of COVID-19 eventually forced an early end to the season, but not before, in God’s perfect timing, 20 children followed the Holy Spirit’s prompting and prayed with coaches to receive Jesus as Lord. Praise God for seeds planted at worship services, KidsQuest, Awana, camps, and in homes, as well as Upward!

We serve an awesome God who is clearly in control and is not finished with His plans for the hundreds of children, their families and guests who were part of Upward 2020. All glory to Him for another life-changing season in unprecedented circumstances, as HCC brought the hope and healing of the gospel to our broken world!
