Love Our City – Car Care

LOVE OUR CITY – CAR CARE Last Saturday, we witnessed our church and community coming together in a powerful way. Some of the car owners were actually near to tears when they expressed their gratitude, saying that no one had shown them kindness like this before. Others said that our mechanics “rocked,” and they loved the free emergency roadside kits. We even fit in some drivers who hadn’t preregistered. They were just driving by and curious about what was happening, and were excited to have us serve them as well. Nearly 60 cars arrived that day to be inspected by … Read More

Barry Brenden – celebrating 20 years on staff

PASTOR BARRY BRENDEN | CELEBRATING 20 YEARS ON STAFF This month we are celebrating Pastor Barry Brenden’s 20th anniversary serving with our staff team! We are immeasurably blessed as a church family and community by Pastor Barry’s heart for people and his passion for pastoral care. Barry was kind enough to share the following reflections with us: What do you find most rewarding about serving as a Pastor? Inez Wilson – The Legacy Continues

INEZ WILSON Highlands Community Church’s founding pastor’s wife, Inez Wilson went home to Jesus on June 13. She loved the Lord and faithfully served Him throughout her life. Please join us in thanking the Lord for His dear daughter and her legacy that continues in us. In 1943, Multnomah School of the Bible students Inez Kellogg and Wallace Wilson heard about a Bible camp on the Cedar River that had been founded to reach the children living in the WWII housing projects in the Renton area. For three summers, Wally and Inez helped run the camp and after graduating and … Read More

Building Hope

BUILDING HOPE Jim Munson Our Highlands Men are men of action! Last week, they supported one of our Highlands Kent single mom’s by building a 2-bedroom apartment in her home. Why? Because her husband left her and the children and she doesn’t make enough money to support them in the future. By adding this apartment, she will have just what she will need to close the gap. Her job alone wouldn’t do it. When we talk about finding and following Jesus, we are not just talking about knowing Jesus, but action to make people’s lives better. This is following Jesus. … Read More

A Letter from Pastor Nate

Hey Highlands family, Courtney and I are so grateful to be back in the Northwest and serving with you in Kent! I want to briefly share some of what we’re excited about for Highlands Kent, some of what you can expect from me as your pastor, and some of what the next few months might look like. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT Personally, we love the Seattle metro area. I started praying for the Pacific Northwest while I was a student in Bible college and have always loved the idea of pastoring here. Courtney grew up in Bothell and still has … Read More

Cans for Bibles | Helping People Find and Follow Jesus in South Africa

CANS FOR BIBLES  |  HELPING PEOPLE FIND AND FOLLOW JESUS IN SOUTH AFRICA South Africa has been hit hard by Covid-19. The country, with a population of 67 million, now has the world’s fifth largest case load. Many rural medical clinics are closing due to health care workers becoming sick. Peer Educators are losing family members, pastors and teachers whom they have worked with closely. In the midst of it all, Yandiswa, age 16, Grade 10, is not giving up hope. She is shown here sharing a passage from her Reach4Life Bible to encourage other youths and recently wrote: “I … Read More
