EXCITING NEWS FROM HIGHLANDS
Interim Lead Pastor & Lead Team Update | January 31, 2021
We are thrilled to share with you that Pastor Nate Edmondson has accepted the position of Interim Lead Pastor!
We are grateful for Pastor Nate, his wife Courtney, and their family. We have heard from so many of you who have been blessed by Nate’s teaching the last few months alongside our preaching team, and as Elders, we have confidence that Nate will serve strongly in this interim role, as we work with the Lead Team to determine our longer-term pastoral plan.
We likewise want to update you that following the recent transition of our Executive Pastor of Operations Kerry Warren, the Elders have given each Lead Team member interim responsibility for the overall management of his or her ministry area, and of the church staff as a whole.
As many of you know, the Lead Team of the church staff consists of Pastor Nate Edmondson (Interim Lead Pastor), Judy Fetzer (HCC Kids), Pastor Josh Lewis (Students), David Newcomb (Communications) and Zeb Greenfield (Connections/Groups/Operations). This isn’t a new team, but each of them have been serving faithfully as part of the Lead Team, and also in their specific area of ministry. We have full confidence in these leaders, and in our entire staff and pastoral team.
Also as part of this interim leadership plan, the Lead Team will each now be reporting to Nate, and the Operations Team is now reporting to Zeb. So congratulations and thank you to Nate, Zeb, and the Lead Team for stepping up to these additional responsibilities.
We know that you may have some additional questions moving forward in regards to these updates and we want to make ourselves available as Elders to answer those. We encourage you to read more below and you can also submit your questions anytime on the Elders page at highlandscc.org/elders.
Thank you for praying for our church and for our staff team, as together we continue in our mission to help people find and follow Jesus, bringing the hope and healing of the gospel to our broken world!

What is the plan for future pastoral and staff leadership at Highlands, beyond this current interim plan?
The Elders are working with the Lead Team on our plan for what is next. We are grateful for the pastoral and staff team God has blessed us with and have full confidence in this interim leadership team during this season.
Now that Nate is serving as Interim Lead Pastor, will this have any impact on our plans for Highlands Kent?
The short answer is, we don’t know yet. In this season without a Kent facility available for in person services, we continue to encourage our Highlands Kent family to stay connected through groups as well as attending services online and in person at Highlands Renton. While Nate’s focus for the near term will be serving our church as a whole as Interim Lead Pastor, our pastoral team continues to actively reach out and care for our Highlands Kent family.
What’s the latest in regards to the recommendations our church consultant has made for the Elder Board and for our church?
As we shared back in December, we have been actively working with an outside Christian consulting group that specializes in church leadership. The past two months our consultant has conducted a thorough evaluation of our leadership structure and has just recently presented his recommendations to the Elders for next steps. Next week, the Elders will be sharing an update with you regarding the plan of action and next steps the Board is taking based on the consultant's recommendations. Stay tuned!
