HURRICANE RELIEF IN HAITI
Over the past few days, many in the country of Haiti have been left struggling to survive in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. Impoverished rural farmers in particular were hit hard, with wooden homes destroyed and in numerous cases, their sustaining source of income, garden crops and livestock, being completely wiped out.
Because of your faithful generosity through regular weekly giving, Highlands has been able to respond and take part in the relief effort, contributing $8,000 through the Crossworld mission agency. The money will help provide immediate relief (through food distribution, clean drinking water, and temporary shelter) as well as help with sustainable development projects (such as repairing houses, schools, and churches) that will provide temporary employment for locals and have a long term effect on the situation in Haiti. We chose the mission agency Crossworld because they have been serving in Haiti for over 30 years, and because of their focus on building the church, spreading the gospel and making vocational and spiritual disciples.
We invite you to be praying, both for the people of Haiti as they navigate significant challenges in the coming days, and for local missionaries who will be sharing the love of Jesus as they provide for both physical and spiritual needs.
