On Friday night, February 5, 160 ladies of all ages gathered in HCC’s worship center to paint a picture of God’s creation, taught step-by-step by Highlands’ own amazingly talented Karisa Marsland, wife of HCC’s Student Ministries Director, Jordan Marsland. Johannah Dalgardno, wife of our Student Ministries Pastor, Nick Dalgardno was our fabulous speaker. As a connection event, Ladies Paint NIght was definitely a success. It was wonderful to see moms and their high school age daughters enjoying one another’s company. Women had invited their friends who don’t attend Highlands. Longtime friends were re-connecting. I overheard comments like, “I really needed to get out and just have fun with my friends,” and, “This is the first time I have ever been at a Highlands event.”
We are blessed at Highlands to have so many talented and gifted women and men who use those God-given gifts to bless us. Dinah Prather and her massive team of volunteers took care of the logistics. They included women who set up before the event, those who were pre-trained to help with painting advice during the event, and mothers and daughters who helped clean up after the event. Jen Haugh and her team of women who kept the delicious snacks and beverages flowing did a fantastic job also! The men who re-arranged the worship center before and after the event was so appreciated as were the tech team! I heard so many comments from the women serving that they felt so blessed to be able to serve in this way. They seemed to be having as much or more fun than the women painting!
Together, Karisa and Johannah, portrayed through picture and His Word, who God is and who we are as His children. As Karisa demonstrated each new portion of the painting, Johannah shared about laying our burdens down and letting God carry us. He Who created the heavens and the earth has been here since the beginning of time and He is with us now and sees what we are going through. Johannah went on to explain that, “God is like a mighty mountain. Whatever our situation is, we need to focus on God. He makes all things new and is our rock, our hope and our redeemer. He knows exactly what we are facing each day and will be right beside us every step of the way.” – Michele Jancola
