At Highlands one of our core values is to develop and champion the next generation of ministry leaders. Our current sermon series in the book of 2nd Timothy is entitled Multiply: Building Godly Next Generation Leaders. As we go through the series, we'll be introducing just a few of the Next Gen leaders who are making a difference for Jesus in various roles, locally here at HCC and in ministries across the world!

What are some things you get to do as part of your role on staff?
As part of my role on staff, I get to help lead our church body in praising our Savior through song, communicate & coordinate with pastors and staff members regarding sermon passages, creative elements, and the “flow” of Sunday services, establish group cohesion and team-building amongst musicians through frequent interaction and communication, assess strengths of potential musicians and assign roles accordingly, create Sunday service schedules for musicians, and manage song selections & set lists.
What do you enjoy about serving on our staff team & leading in ministry?
What makes it meaningful to you?
One of the things I enjoy about serving on our staff team is the strong sense of community and camaraderie! I also appreciate having the freedom to express and utilize our God-given passions, talents, and creativity to aid in proclaiming the gospel, building Christ’s church, and furthering His kingdom.
How has Highlands helped build into you as a ministry leader?
A few of the ways Highlands has helped build into me as a ministry leader is through teaching and mentoring (in both one-on-one and group settings), learning by doing (hands-on experiences), the exposure to and training in new programs, softwares, technologies, methods, strategies, etc. and opportunities to both serve and lead in various ministry areas. Not to mention the overwhelming kindness, generosity, love, and care shown to both me and my wife!
Name one or two ways that you desire to see the church make an impact on our community & beyond:
I’m passionate about the Church helping the lost to truly see and understand the dire state of their hearts and souls without Christ, their desperate need for Him as their Lord & Savior, calling them to repentance and salvation, and seeing their lives radically transformed from the inside out for their good and His glory. Likewise, teaching, training, & discipling believers, growing them in purity, holiness, spiritual maturity, and Christ-likeness, and equipping them for leadership and gospel ministry.
Share a verse or scripture passage that is significant to you:
"And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." -Ephesians 2:1-10
Bonus question: what do you enjoy doing outside of ministry? (i.e. if you had an hour of free time...how might you use it?)
My wife, Natalie, and I love to adventure and try new things. Especially when it comes to music, art, fashion, food, and coffee. So we will take advantage of any and every opportunity we get to explore those avenues. Otherwise, you'll find us doing our daily devotionals together at a local coffee shop, playing/cuddling with our two-year-old Boxer, Mazie Moon, or enjoying a bowl of our favorite cereal while watching Netflix :)
