At Highlands one of our core values is to develop and champion the next generation of ministry leaders. Our current sermon series in the book of 2nd Timothy is entitled Multiply: Building Godly Next Generation Leaders. As we go through the series, we'll be introducing just a few of the Next Gen leaders who are making a difference for Jesus in various roles, locally here at HCC and in ministries across the world!

DAVID NEWCOMB

Ministry area that you lead at Highlands:
Communications

What are some things you get to do as part of your role on staff?
As part of my role on staff, I oversee our digital strategy including website, mobile app, and social media. I also lead our branding and design efforts, launch new communication channels, as well as create and share stories through video, articles, and campaigns that cast vision for our church and support our leadership teams as we help people find and follow Jesus!

What do you enjoy about serving on our staff team and leading in ministry?
What makes it meaningful to you?

Besides all the wonderful leaders I have the opportunity to serve alongside, one of the best parts of my job is having a front row seat to stories of lives transformed by Jesus. As I have the privilege of interviewing folks and getting behind-the-scenes insight into their stories, I'm continually amazed to see how Jesus works through people in beautiful and surprising ways. There is nothing like being part of a church family that loves and serves our community and is passionate to share the good news of the gospel!

How has Highlands helped build into you as a ministry leader?
One of the uniquenesses of my position is that I get to interact and work with just about everyone on our staff team! Over the years I have been blessed to have been poured into by these leaders who have encouraged and challenged me to grow not just as a leader but as a husband, father, and friend.

Name one or two ways that you desire to see the church make an impact on our community and beyond:
My heart is to see the church be an outward focused presence for good in our community, caring for both the practical and spiritual needs of people who are hurting and looking for answers. Likewise, Highlands has long been a place where leaders are developed and sent out to impact the world for Jesus, both in the US and across the globe, and it's very meaningful to be part of that and see that continue.

Share a verse or Scripture passage that is significant to you:
"For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:12-13

Bonus question: What do you enjoy doing outside of ministry? (i.e. If you had an hour of free time...how might you use it?)
One of my favorite things is going on "adventures" with my wife Kaitie, son Joel (3) and daughter Audrey (1),whether that's just to the park, on a hike, or somewhere special like the Mariners game! (Huge baseball fans in our house.) Kaitie and I also love having dinner with friends, playing board games, going to musicals, talking theology, and laughing about the hilarious things our kids say and do (after they go to bed, of course).
