PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL IN TABORA, TANZANIA
Alan & Mary Lou Pomeroy
Africa Regional Directors
Nyamwezi people in Africa are now hearing the Bible in their own language! In March, John Petit and Alan Pomeroy delivered 103 Proclaimers (audio Bibles) to Highlands’ mission partners, Tim and Cathy Bong who are serving in Tanzania. These small solar charged units are suitable for non-readers in the languages of Nyamwezi and Swahili. They have the sound capability to enable groups of up to 100 to clearly hear God’s Word and will be used in many villages. HCC had purchased 50 units from Faith Comes by Hearing but were surprised to receive over double what we purchased! As Romans 10:17 states, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” We look forward to hearing of the people who will come to faith by means of these audio Bibles.
While in Tabora, John and Alan also visited multiple villages where they saw God’s work taking place through the ministry of the Bongs and Pastor Christopher, who serves with Africa Inland Church Tanzania (AICT). They are partnering with other missionaries and local evangelists in conducting Bible studies. As participation in the Bible studies increases and the people grow in the Lord, these groups will become village churches. Already property has been purchased for the churches and these sites are being prepared for building.
The missionaries are also helping provide for the physical needs of the people. Several fresh water wells provide the only sources of clean drinking water in the villages. These wells are a result of the generous contributions of HCC and Foothills Bible Church in Colorado. The people are also being taught agricultural methods to help improve crop effectiveness and nutrition.
Jesus instructed his disciples to, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:15). Thank you, Highlands Community Church, for following this mandate and generously giving to reach the people of Tanzania.
