The Reason For God
A Six Week Discussion

Do you have questions about God, Jesus, or the Bible? We invite you to six conversations about common objections to the Christian faith. Come to any session or join us for all; we'll have an open discussion following The Reason for God by Tim Keller.

When: Sunday Mornings | April 16–May 21 at 10:45 am in the Fellowship Hall
No registration required.

April 16: Isn’t the Bible a myth? Hasn’t science disproved Christianity?
In this session we will dive into the tension around evolution and creation. If evolution is true, then where does that put the creation story in Genesis? Can we trust the Bible? Can it be taken literally? Can I trust what it says and allow the Bible to have authority in my life? Join us as we explore these and other questions.

April 23: How can you say there is only one way to God? What about other religions?
Have you heard people say there are many ways to God, or that all the major religions lead to the same God? Is this true? Could millions of adherents of other faiths be mistaken? Why should Christians claim that Christianity is the only true faith? Aren’t Christians intolerant and arrogant by saying so? Bring your questions and dialogue with us as we explore these questions.

April 30: What gives you the right to tell me how to live my life? Why should I follow the rules of Christianity?
In this session we will explore the objection many people have when they say, “What gives you the right to tell me how to live my life?” Or they insist that every person has the right to determine right and wrong for themselves. Is Christianity a moral straightjacket? Join us as we explore the questions of right and wrong in our culture, and what Jesus has to say about it.

May 7: How could a good God allow suffering? Why is there so much evil in the world?
In this session we will explore how and why a good, all- powerful, all knowing God could possibly allow suffering. There is so much evil in the world. Why doesn’t God do something about it? What good could possibly come from it, especially as evil touches innocent lives. Join us as we explore the problem of evil in the world.

May 14: Why is the church responsible for so much hypocrisy and injustice?
In this session we will discuss the objection many people have to Christianity when they observe so much hypocrisy in the church. It’s not difficult to confirm this from examples in our present day culture and in history. People ask how they can join in a faith community that appears so inconsistent in their practice. Join us as we explore this and other questions.

May 21: How can a loving God send people to Hell?
People may say things like, “Surely all good, decent people can find God and go to Heaven. It’s unthinkable to imagine a God who sends good people to Hell.” In this session we will talk about why people can accept the idea of a loving and forgiving God-but cannot accept a God who would knowingly send people to Hell. Hell seems incompatible with the idea of a loving God.
