Friends, families, and participants celebrated the 12th season of HCC Upward basketball and cheerleading at a high energy awards event on March 19 in Lindbergh High School’s auditorium, appropriately out in the community that the Lord would have us reach for Him.

With nearly 70% of this year’s 320 participants not attending HCC, Highlands families came out of the bleachers to welcome, love, and build relationships with those from the community this season – our first in the beautiful new Family Life Center.

Parents appreciated all aspects of the ministry, particularly the Christ-centered focus and encouragement their children received from coaches, referees and concessions workers. Individual and small group prayer partners diligently lifted up teams in prayer before, during, and after the season, fervently calling on the Lord to bring children and families to Him.

Through seeds planted in multiple venues including worship services, Sunday school classes, KidsQuest, Awana, camps, and retreats and at home, 23 adults and children followed the Holy Spirit’s prompting to pray to receive Christ as Savior. Another 14 recommitted their lives to the Lord.

Families were changed for eternity as children prayed this season with their coaches (who were also their parents) to receive Jesus as Lord.

Other parents, who watched their children receive Christ in previous Upward seasons, gave their lives to the Lord at awards night! Relationships built on the court continued, as new families sought out how to find and following Jesus at Highlands.

Huge thanks go to the Upward Team members who gave selflessly of their time, energies and talents during the 10-week season, as well as the entire HCC community for prayers and encouragement of Upward participants. What a blessing and privilege to have the opportunity to reach children and families in our community for Christ. All glory to the LORD for a life changing season!
