Bible Quiz Team

Scripture, competition, and community

Highlands Community Church has been a participant of the IFCA Bible Quizzing in the Pacific Northwest region for approximately 32 years.  Students in 7th – 12th grade are eligible to join. During the year, students memorize approximately 180 verses (novice) to 274 verses (senior).  On average, a student who participates in 6 years of quizzing will have memorized the majority of 11 books of the New Testament.

Bible Quizzing allows students to:

  • Grow in their relationship with God through memorization of the Word, weekly study of the Scripture passages, and learning to apply the Word daily.

  • Develop discipline, study habits, and techniques of concentration, all of which are practical skills which will serve the students well in all aspects of their life.

  • Recognize and set priorities and manage their time to accomplish those priorities.

  • Experience close spiritual and personal fellowship through the team experience while making friends locally and across the country.

Practices are held every Tuesday (mid-September through June) from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.  Each practice includes time for quoting, quizzing, devotions covering that week’s memorized passages of Scripture, and prayer.

The material is divided into manageable weekly assignments. Each student receives a weekly memorization schedule that outlines the verses to be memorized for that week. Students are then quizzed on the memorized Scripture through questions about the context and content of the verses, recitation of the memorized passages, and identification of verses based on hearing only the first few words.
